10-Piece Wardrobe for Work
THE LOOK
Style Notes
KEY PIECES
I have another 10-piece wardrobe inspiration for you!
Why am I working around 10 garments?
It’s the optimum amount needed to give you numerous options.
You can go for smaller amount if you don’t want to layer or want to layer with just one outer piece.
You can also go for more garments if needed. In that case I would recommend adding another outer piece and another bottom.
This capsule is based around navy as opposed to black. Putting both into one capsule will make it very difficult to co-ordinate effectively so is best to be avoided.
STYLING IDEAS
I’ve created this capsule around the formula I’ve shown you before – there are 2 outer pieces, 5 tops and 3 bottoms.
For a smart capsule you need structure and dressy fabrics. Silky materials in tops and the skirt and the structure of blazers and trousers work well together to create polished professional looks.
This colour palette is a good example of colours that work all year around. They are not too dark and not too bright. If you have similar colour/s in your wardrobe, pay attention to the rest of the colours in the palette as they all mix and match perfectly.
This is also a good intensity of colours if you are not used to bright colours. These tones are vibrant enough to feel summery, but also have a muted feel to them to not feel overpowering.
Burgundy is a really good alternative to black in accessories. It’s dark enough for winter and has enough depth of colour to work in summer. So if you are looking to get away from black, burgundy is a fab alternative.
DECIDING IF THIS IS RIGHT FOR YOU
If you work in a casual environment and this much structure feels too dressy, simply draw inspiration from the colour palette and try to either recreate it in your own wardrobe, or gradually introduce the palette or specific combinations into it.
The check blazer (the print is actually dog-tooth but creates an illusion of check from the distance) would be a great staple even for a casual wardrobe when paired with jeans.
This capsule can be easily dressed down by adding trainers, jeans and swapping silky blouses for more casual tops like t-shirts.
Play around with the contents of your existing wardrobe to see whether you can recreate any elements of the capsule – be it an outfit formula (even if the colours are totally different) or a colour combination (even if you mix different types of garments) or experiment with layering.
