High-street Weekend Look

THE LOOK

Style Notes

KEY PIECES

Say goodbye to pottering around in tracksuits or your gym gear!

You can do comfy and casual without compromising on style.

Relaxed coat is a great option for a casual wardrobe. Even when paired with leggings and trainers, it will bring an element of structure to the look and dress up the overall outfit. So ditch your casual spring jacket and substitute it for something sleeker!

Joggers are the casual girl’s best friend! They look a lot more presentable than tracksuit bottoms. Go for either knit or polyester finish and avoid sweatpants fabrics.

If you are looking for good layering tshirts, head to H&M. Their viscose tees are a great basic that won’t break the bank but the fit is really good. Viscose sits much better than cotton, so in general, when looking for a good-fitting tshirt, look for viscose rather than cotton. Also, always try a size bigger as these t-shirts are not meant to be figure hugging, they look their best when they are a little bit loose.

STYLING IDEAS

You can still do your hoodie with this look! This combination has been very popular with streetstylers and looks very on-trend without actually investing in any trends.

If you pair the look with chunky trainers, you will get an outfit that oozes athleisure chic and you’ll never feel sloppy and underdressed when out and about on the weekend. It’s a cool and youthful look without trying too hard.

A bucket bag is a really versatile accessory that easily finishes off sporty looks, but works just as well with more dressed-up looks.

DECIDING IF THIS IS RIGHT FOR YOU

These are easy-to-wear pieces that look a good bit dressier than some of the off-duty looks you might be wearing now.

The structure of the coat is what gives the combination an edge. However, the coat can be repurposed for any other look so it’s a very safe investment.

If you have small kids and wearing light-coloured trousers is not practical, the whole look can be done in dark neutrals like black and grey without losing the stylish edge.

Additional Options

Dress Up

If a hoodie feels too casual, swap it for a merino wool or a cashmere jumper. The dressier finish of either will elevate the look.

A long cardigan is a great alternative to a coat coming into the warmer spring months. The below-the-knee length looks modern and particularly edgy when teamed with sporty pieces.

If chunky trainers feel a bit out of the comfort zone, go for classic white sneakers.

Dress Down

When wearing the joggers casually, avoid going too casual on the overall look. The purpose of this aesthetic is to go for something a bit more polished than a tracksuit/gym gear without losing the comfort, so don’t fall back into looking overly casually and sloppy.

Dressing joggers even further down will defeat the purpose of getting them.

Colours

You can build your casual wardrobe around bright and neutral colours without having to resort to black. Doing that alone will significantly elevate your looks and give them a dressier feel without trying too hard.
