HOW TO STYLE
STATEMENT SKIRTS
TIPS AND IDEAS
When your foundation wardrobe is fully sorted, it’s time to have some fun with the statement pieces! (If it isn’t, don’t get sidetracked with anything statement as you simply won’t have much to go with overly complicated items. Start here instead!)
For those of you who have already taken care of your staples, summer is the perfect time of the year to introduce some bright/detailed/dramatic bits to your wardrobe. This is the season we associate the bold colours with and most of us would be more inclined to wear something out-there during the summer months rather than any other time of the year. So if you feel like wearing something out of your comfort zone, now is the time!
A statement skirt is a fabulous piece to have, whether you style it for day-to-day wear or rock it on slightly more special occasions like going for a nice lunch with the girls or out for dinner.
There is a huge variety of options to play around with, it all depends on your personal preferences and your comfort zone.
POTENTIAL STYLES IN STATEMENT SKIRTS
Here are some ideas on how to create a strong focal point through a skirt. Think of elements like texture (suede, feathers, lace, velvet, tweed, and so on), cut details (maxi, ruffles, ruching, asymmetric hem, etc.), colour (be it a block colour or a print), detailing like sequins, fringing, embroidery, and so on. You are only limited by your imagination!

WHAT TO PUT WITH STATEMENT SKIRTS
One of the most common mistakes I see in my clients’ wardrobes is having lots of pieces with interesting details, but having nothing suitable to go with them. Before you invest in a statement skirt, make sure you have a good selection of basic pieces to put with them.
Putting another detailed piece with a complicated skirt requires a lot of styling expertise, but basic tops are a no-brainer. If you already have a statement skirt in your wardrobe, but feel like you have nothing to go with it, then your wardrobe is definitely missing basic staples. If you don’t own a statement skirt but are considering getting one, make sure you have the right tops to go with it before you go spending any money.
If you are not sure what tops your wardrobe needs or how to go about getting the right ones, this course will take you by the hand through each piece and everything you need to know about it.
I have some ideas for you below of the pieces that would go effortlessly with pretty much any skirt. Simply experiment with different options depending on how dressy/casual you want to go!
